Brief: Demonstrating the Power of IBM Blockchain with Clarity
Objective: How can we effectively showcase the capabilities of IBM Blockchain while maintaining simplicity in understanding?
Ensuring Transparency from Farm to Cup
Brooklyn Roasting Company operates with a clear mission: to procure and provide sustainable, ethically sourced coffee. While this objective appears straightforward, the journey from mountaintop coffee farms to consumers’ cups is intricate and extensive. Issues related to accountability and transparency can lead to delays and fraudulent activities. This is where IBM Blockchain comes into play.
Our Response:
Our approach involved integrating the data associated with Brooklyn Roasting Company’s Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee onto a blockchain. This initiative grants you a glimpse into the world of traceable, trackable coffee trade. By illustrating how blockchain technology benefits farmers, roasters, and every intermediary, we aimed to emphasize the role it plays in delivering a fresher and fairer coffee experience.
Selecting the bustling heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, particularly the Smorgasburg street fair, proved to be the optimal venue for showcasing the intricacies of the coffee trade. At this event, we provided Brooklyn Roasting Company’s offerings to the public, distributing fair trade coffee in specially designed tumblers. These tumblers enabled users to trace the journey of the coffee beans used in their brews back to the original farmer. The data shared throughout this journey underscored the assurance that Blockchain technology provides, ensuring complete knowledge of the origins of the products.
In my capacity as Executive Producer, my responsibilities encompassed evaluating feasibility and scope, scouting suitable locations, overseeing the fabrication of the coffee container with two levels, managing event logistics, coordinating web development efforts, and handling overall project logistics.
