The Brief: Demonstrating the Power of AI and IBM’s Watson
The challenge was set: could a machine possess a deeper understanding of individuals than they themselves do? In pursuit of this inquiry, we crafted an interactive installation named the Cognitive Photobooth. This innovation hinged on IBM’s AI computing marvel, Watson, to generate data-centric portraits of individuals. Our data constitutes our essence, a reflection of our actions and emotions. Within the Cognitive Photobooth, a groundbreaking interaction unfolded as the public engaged in conversations with IBM’s Watson. Thousands of gallery attendees eagerly conversed with Watson, whose queries were then dissected using his Speech to Text and Tone Analyzer APIs.
Subsequently, each guest’s distinct personality profile was translated into a bespoke poster-sized portrait through a data visualization, meticulously crafted within minutes. Watson metamorphosed data into the purest form of captured portraiture, epitomizing technology’s capacity to unveil the essence of an individual. The debut of the photobooth marked the centerpiece of the expansive “Art with Watson” exhibition, subsequently embarking on a global journey, gracing various tech conventions worldwide. It even found a scaled-down presence at the US Open. This unique encounter offered both the tech-savvy skeptics and casual onlookers an opportunity to engage with IBM Watson in an entirely novel manner.
In my capacity as Executive Producer, my responsibilities encompassed gauging feasibility and scope, overseeing app development, managing fabrication, and providing design direction for this groundbreaking endeavor.
