The Brief: Unveiling the Cafe OLED Experience in Soho for LG’s New OLED TV Line
LG sought to establish an exceptional Cafe OLED experience in Soho to showcase their cutting-edge OLED TV lineup. The challenge was clear: how could we engage users with the screens in an interactive and captivating manner?
Our Response: Forging an Interactive Mirror
Harnessing the OLED screens’ exceptional black levels, which enhance color vibrancy, we conceived a concept that amalgamated technology and user engagement. The brainchild of our creative technologist, Dofl Yun, this endeavor held the promise of melding artistic expression with screen interactivity. Collaboratively, we embarked on an exploratory journey over several weeks, striving to identify the optimal effect to epitomize these black levels. Ultimately, we settled on a kinetic design, mirroring the intricate patterns of a physical flip sculpture. The concept was simple: “on” represented black, while “off” ushered in a spectrum of colors. The enchanting spectacle of the tiles flipping imbued users with a firsthand appreciation of the screens’ astonishing contrast capabilities.
To actualize this vision, we integrated a real sense depth camera that could discern users’ proximity to the mirror. As users approached, the mirror seamlessly transitioned from its screensaver mode, revealing their reflection on the screen. This delightful twist led users to react with exuberant waves and playful poses. An on-site brand ambassador was present to modulate the pattern and hue of the display. Upon user request, the ambassador could snap a photograph and promptly transmit it via email.
This interactive mirror exemplified the union of creativity and technology, yielding a truly extraordinary experience.
